Fargesia dracocephala 'Rufa' is a beautiful and extremely cold hardy clumping bamboo plant from Sichuan Province, China. It is one of the first bamboo plants to shoot in the spring and has bright orange-red shoots that really stand out. Unlike many hardy clumping bamboos, Rufa is able to handle full sun without leaf curl. The tightly clumping growth habit, and ability to grow well in sun or shade, make Rufa a good choice for someone wanting a bamboo plant that is easy to grow with little maintenance.  Plant Rufa on 4 to 8 feet centers and cut out the top 1/3 height of the perimeter canes to create a compact privacy hedge.

Indocalamus tessellatus is a very tropical looking bamboo with the largest leaves of any bamboo in cultivation. The lush leaves are often used to wrap food, and can grow up to 24 inches long by 4 inches wide.  It can be grown in both sun or shade but prefers shade, and will grow in a dark spot under large trees very well. This extremely fast growing bamboo would make an excellent choice for erosion control along a river or hillside without interfering with the view. Try growing it in a tall pot to bring the unique leaves up to eye level. Indocalamus tessellatus is one of the easiest of all bamboos to grow indoors.

Semiarundinaria fastuosa 'Viridis'

Semiarundinaria fastuosa 'Viridis'

Now $75.00

* Max Height 30' (West Coast Estimate 15 to 25 Feet)
* Max Culm Dia 1.5"
* Evergreen to -21C
* Sun or Shade
* Running Bamboo

Semiarundinaria fastuosa 'Viridis' is one of our fastest growing bamboo plants. It has very large tropical looking leaves that measure up to 10 inches long. The branches are very densely packed with leaves that seem to grow out in tiers along canes that have persistent leaf sheaths, giving it an unusual tropical look. The canes shoot very closely together in the ground creating a solid screen with good sound protection. Add to these characteristics, very upright stature and you have a great choice for a privacy screen, or specimen planting.

Although rated to 30 feet our Semiarundinaria fastuosa 'Viridis has only grown to about 15 feet tall here at Bamboo World.  We estimate it may grow a little shorter than rated here in the Lower Mainland and Greater Vancouver of British Columbia.

This versatile bamboo can be grown in sun or shade, as well as indoors, or outdoors.

Other names for this bamboo are Japanese Palm Bamboo, Narihira, and Green Temple Bamboo.
